RECORDED IN 2008...PREVIOUSLY UNRELEASED UNTIL NOW!!

For the most part these songs were all brand new when we recorded this...the band had never heard almost all of them. I was writing lots of songs while living in Nanton Alberta and anxious to do something with them.

I said to Steve Loree one day that we should do a record together, he didn't have his studio up and going yet so it was easier said then done. Without my band around he said it would be pointless to try to make a recording with different musicians. This made sense to me. Steve suggested instead we make an album called Joey Only Drinks a Case of Beer where somehow I had to drink an entire case of beer. So this album is essentially a recording of me getting wasted.

Many of these songs were later recorded on the Transgression Trail album two years later, but in the spring of 2008 I had no resources yet to make that feature length record. It seemed like a pipedream so Steve and I sat down and did this instead in his basement. I fully intended to release this recording as a short run album the next fall...I just never did. It was around then we first began to seriously talk about recording Transgression Trail and I knew I wanted to use a lot of the same songs...eventually this recording fell to the wayside and nothing was ever done with it.

In hindsight some of the versions of the songs were different then what ended up on Transgression Trail and some of them were pretty good. It turns out I should have released this album and I should have made more like it, I'm still alive and it's not too late. It's an interesting formula for a recording and I'm really tempted to do it again except next time with whiskey or pills or something.
